Meet Danny Carroll

In his own words…

I remember the very first time I arrived in Iowa in March 1972. I came home with my girlfriend, who is now my wife, from college in Tennessee. We had driven all night and arrived on a clear, crisp spring morning. I woke up and looked around the countryside and the small town of Grinnell and had a ‘Kevin Costner moment’. I actually used the word ‘paradise’.

From that time on, I’ve never wanted to live any place else. Iowa is where I wanted to put down roots and raise my family. And I’ve never regretted that decision. I love Iowa and want to use my talents, abilities and experience to serve the state I love and call home.”

Danny Carroll and his wife Joy have called Grinnell their home ever since. Danny’s public service began in 1984 as a member of the Poweshiek County Board of Supervisors. He served in that position for ten years and was then elected to the Iowa House of Representatives in 1994. He held that office through 2006.

Danny has seen Iowa life as a farmer, small business owner and foster parent.  Currently he and Joy live just south of Grinnell where they own and operate Carroll’s Pumpkin Farm. From families to school classes Carrolls Pumpkin Farm has been giving folks a taste of farm life for nearly 20 years.  In addition, Danny is the Director of Community Relations for Iowa Telecom with headquarters in Newton, Iowa.

The Carrolls have three grown children, all currently residing in Iowa and two grand-daughters. 2008 was a big year for the Carrolls with their two daughters getting married this past Spring.

In reflecting on his service in public office Danny credits his wife, parents and the pastor in his home church for expecting and encouraging him to work hard, practice discipline and show respect for others.
